This is a post that I’ve been working on for about six months. What does it mean to live a luxurious life? Sure there are the obvious luxuries like fashion, beauty and travel but what about the not-so-obvious? Health, time and quality relationships are also luxuries that most don’t often talk about. In this post, I’ll be covering all of these and more! Read for my tips on how to live a more luxurious life!

Dress to Impress

An easy way to create a more luxurious life is through clothing. Aim to dress to impress – not for others, but for yourself. It’s important to feel good in your clothing and to wear things that make you feel and look amazing. I’ve really started to lean more into this as I’ve gotten older. Of course, I love a good trend but the thing is, not every trend flatters my body or personal style. Instead, I like to stick with what works on me – items that fit well, look sharp and make me feel confident.

Quality over Quantity

When I say quality over quantity, I mean this in every aspect – relationships, experiences and of course, material items. We live in a world where overconsumption is at an all-time high and where we fill our carts constantly with things we don’t need. As a result, many of us are leaning more into investing in pricier items of better quality that can be worn for many, many years. And trust me, I completely understand that everyone has a different financial situation (been there!). Quality doesn’t necessarily mean expensive. This is certainly true when you think about the old money aesthetic and how it can be created with pieces at varying price points.

If you are on a budget, I recommend checking thrift and consignment store for true vintage items. Sometimes you can find high quality pieces (or even designer) for a steal! There are also so many sustainable brands now with varying price points. And of course, investing in one good piece at a time is completely doable. Whether that’s a pair of shoes, an elevated handbag or a tailored coat – these pieces can really help create a more high quality look reminiscent of the quiet luxury trend.

Glow Up

I wrote an entire post on how to glow up so I won’t expand too much on that here. Glowing up can significantly increase your self-esteem and confidence resulting in a more luxurious life. The rituals of self-care, hygiene and romanticizing your life in simple ways can create a routine you look forward to every single day. You’ll want to take care of your skin, hair, nails and all of the little things that show that you put effort and care into your appearance and self esteem. For more tips in this area, check out this post!

Make Healthy Choices

Living a luxurious life isn’t just about glowing up, getting a chic wardrobe or even doing inner work. Health is one of the greatest luxuries in life so it’s important to take care of yourself. Eating a balanced diet, drinking water, getting sleep and staying active are just a few things that you can do to be healthy. Everyone is different so priorities may differ from person to person in this area. I also think that we forget the little things like dental and eye health, mental and emotional health, and other things that might be unique to just us. Taking care of yourself is always in vogue 😉

Update Your Home

My main word of the year is glamour and I’ve been moving toward this for quite some time. I’ve been on the journey of updating my closet, my inner and outer self and now, my home. I do want to point out that you don’t necessarily have to buy all new furniture in order to update your space. You can easily update with a gallery wall, new pillows, a cozy throw, a luxe candle or fresh flowers. The most important thing is that it feels fresh and makes you happy. New starts are always a good idea – just look at the excitement around the new year and holiday decorating! Changing things up once in a while keeps it interesting and exciting.

Declutter Your Space

When it comes to a luxurious life, less is more. Want to know what is not luxurious? Cluttered spaces. I fall victim to this more than I’d like to admit. In fact, I detailed my entire 8 month long declutter journey last year on YouTube (and that was just my closet!). I feel like I’m always decluttering but truly, this doesn’t phase me in the slightest. I used to have a hard time letting go of “things” but now it’s not so bad. I welcome the new and look at it as a way to refresh my closet, home or life. Long story short, decluttering makes your space look and feel less chaotic and much more beautiful and relaxing.

And while we’re on the subject of decluttering, make sure you take the time to declutter other areas of your life as well. Check out this post for tips on how to declutter and organize like a pro!

Watch Classic Hollywood Movies

What is more glamorous than a classic Hollywood film? Nothing, in my opinion! Everything from the clothing and the sets to the story and actors themselves… evokes a feeling of nostalgia, glamour and luxury. Watching the movies is fine but it’s even better if you can try to immerse more of this into your life. Want to wear a feather trimmed robe when you do your hair? Do it! Want to wear a sparkly statement necklace with an everyday outfit? Why not? Take inspiration from the golden age and utilize it in a way that makes sense for you and your lifestyle. Want real life tips? Check out this post on how to be glamorous everyday!

Expand Your Horizons

In my opinion, travel is one of life’s biggest luxuries! Seeing new places, meeting new people and learning about new cultures, ideas and history can be incredibly rewarding and life-changing. Many people have the misconception that travel is expensive and while, yes it can be – it doesn’t have to. You can still reap the same benefits on a budget.

If you’re not in the position to take a two week long European holiday or a cruise through the Mediterranean, don’t fret! The most important thing is that you’re getting out there and expanding more of who you are with every destination. Road trips are a lot of fun and are especially great for making memories. Day trips are also perfect for a quick and magical getaway! Check out my travel diaries for some inspo!

Seek Quality Relationships

When it comes to living a more luxurious life, quality is important in every aspect. This also goes for the people you surround yourself with. Are they toxic? Say good-bye. Take it from someone that knows firsthand about toxic relationships and friendships. It doesn’t get better and you are worth so much more.

Quality relationships will offer support, encouragement, and love. Sadly, the reality of this is that high-quality relationships are few and far between. It’s a misconception that having many friends equals more happiness (more friends, more problems lol!). If you are an outlier and have many healthy relationships in your life, count your blessings! For the rest of us, don’t at all feel bad if you only have a good friend or two. And if you have none, that’s okay too! Consider it a fresh start. Look to attract like-minded and kind people into your life and once you find them, nurture those relationships.

Work on Yourself

In order to live a more luxurious lifestyle, I think it’s important to work on yourself. When people think of luxury, they tend to think in terms of vanity or material items but I think it’s more important to start on the inside. Become the person you always wanted to be and learn to appreciate everything you have. I think that self-awareness goes along way in this sense. Keeping a gratitude journal is also vital because it can be easy to take advantage of everyday blessings when were busy with our day to day life.

Believe That You Are Deserving

When it comes to a luxurious life, believe that you are deserving of quality people, experiences and things (because spoiler: you are). Over the last six years, I’ve gone through the largest transformation of my life. I went from a victimized people pleaser who lacked confidence, felt unworthy, avoided looking in the mirror and thought I was not deserving of the good things that came my way to the complete opposite. Now I know that I’m deserving of good things, quality relationships, memorable experiences and confidence. I don’t allow others to dull my shine or tell me that I’m not good enough… because I already know that I am – and you are too!

Live in the Moment

One of life’s luxuries is being able to spend more time living in the moment. So many of us are running around all day long with a to do list a mile long. We wake up and do it the next day and the next day and the next day. As I’ve gotten older, I’ver realized that time is the ultimate luxury. I used to think that I had to fill every waking hour with work to be successful and that couldn’t be further from the truth. Now I like to plan ahead and take advantage of the time I have by doing things I love – indulging in self-care, hobbies, relaxation and making memories with loved ones.

Living in the moment has not come naturally for me either. It’s been something that I’ve had to work on adamantly for years but it’s so worth it! Even if you are strapped for time, savoring each moment you have can create such a luxurious experience. Are you working from home or cleaning the house? Why not light a candle, play some music and wear your favorite dress. Driving a long distance? Play your favorite songs and sing at the top of your lungs as if no one is watching. I could come up with numerous examples of this but the short version is… romanticize your life more. Appreciate everything and spend more time doing what you love, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem.

Count Your Blessings

We have so much to be grateful for. In fact, if you are reading this post right now, you have lived another day which is something to celebrate! As I mentioned previously, keeping a gratitude journal is very helpful in this instance. It really helps us take into account not just the “big” things that happen in our lives but the small things as well, that are equally as significant. If you like to keep a personal journal or diary, this is helpful as well. You can see just how far you’ve come in certain circumstances. In short, have a grateful heart and be accepting of more blessings. The latter used to be very difficult for me because I felt I wasn’t deserving (see above). But now that I know I am, I’m grateful for everything that comes my way – including you!
