Frequently Asked Questions
Why did you start your blog?
I have wanted to be a fashion designer ever since I was five. Due to a series of unfortunate events, my path slowly started to change making this dream nearly impossible to pursue. I originally found blogging in 2013, but didn’t take the plunge until 2015. I started my blog as a creative outlet and as my last chance to pursue my life long dream of working in fashion. I had no idea what to expect or where it would take me; I just wanted to share my style and passion with the world. Of course, this isn’t the complete story. It has been a challenging road to get here, but has been worth every moment. I share the complete story of how I started blogging in this post. You can also listen to my Style Collective podcast episode here, where I go more in depth about my background. If you are interested in learning some fun facts about me, check out this post.
How did you grow your Instagram?
This is by far the most asked question I get. I actually wrote a whole series on this that I will link below:
Start here: Part One, Part Two, Part Three
These posts cover everything from just starting your account and branding to growing your following and the importance of engagement along my exact process for growth. Although the algorithm has changed since I wrote this series, most of the information is still relevant. I’ll be doing some updates soon 🙂
Who shoots your photos?
I get asked this ALL the time. My husband, who literally had zero knowledge of photography, shoots me and I edit the photos 😉 I also shoot all flat lays and product photography.
What photography equipment do you use?
We use a Canon 5D Mark IV along with 18-55mm, 85mm, 35mm and 50mm lenses for shooting outfits, products and details. We use a Canon g7x for travel and video.
How do you edit your photos?
I use Lightroom for blog photos and VSCO for my Instagram. You can see my exact Instagram editing process in this post.
How do you style your flat lays?
I ALWAYS get asked about my flat lays and product shots. My flat lays have gotten better with time and practice, but you can see how I style them in this post and this post.
What advice would you give to someone just starting their blog?
Be consistent, patient and prepared to work hard. Always be learning, growing and bettering yourself. Be genuine, kind and engaged when concerning everything (readers, bloggers, brands, etc). Be yourself! I would highly recommend reading this post and this post. If you are interested in learning more about starting a blogging, check out my Business of Blogging series!
How tall are you?
This might surprise you but I’m only 4’11” (my husband is 6’1″). When I meet people in person they ALWAYS say “Wow! You look so much taller in your photos.” Haha!
Where do you shop?
I shop at various places, but I have a very detailed list of my favorite shops in this post along with the items I like to buy from those places.
