It’s no secret that I am pink obsessed to the core (see the proof on my Instagram feed ha!). I have way too much of it in my closet, yet I never tire of it because I always find fresh and unexpected ways to style this feminine hue. The only problem with pink is that sometimes it can look a bit juvenile but with the right styling you can make a pink outfit look sophisticated and classy!

When I think of my style, I think of feminine, romantic and at times, a bit whimsical. It’s not too trendy nor too classic yet always put-together and always, always ME. I tend to gravitate towards embellishments, bows, ruffles, lace, floral prints and pastel colors. And for whatever reason, dressing in a very feminine way can sometimes have a negative stigma. Some people argue that it’s “too young” or even perhaps see it as a sign of weakness. Some even think that as they grow older, they aren’t “allowed to wear pink anymore and that’s simply not true. You can still be successful, respectable and strong while wearing a dainty hue (and you’ll look gorgeous because it’s universally flattering!). Since I’m pretty much a pink outfit expert, I thought I’d share my top five tips for making a pink outfit look sophisticated:
5 Tips to Make a Pink Outfit Look Sophisticated
Wear More Structured Pieces
Structured pieces tend to automatically have a more “grown up” feel, even in a colorful hues. The trick is to pick more tailored and well-fitted items that have a simple design. Currently, I’m loving colored pant suits! Also, if you’re going for a more sophisticated look, I’d stay away from any design that is “too trendy” (unless, of course, that’s your style).
Choose Less Saturated Shades
Bright hues tend skew on the younger side (and there is totally nothing wrong with that) but if you want to go for a more timeless look, lighter shades like blush pink and darker hues like mauve certainly do the trick. Sophisticated doesn’t mean stuffy and boring; you can still have fun with color and look polished!
Pair It With Neutrals
Personally, I think that wearing the same (or a variety of the same) hue looks so chic when worn head to toe, especially with more simple, tailored designs. However, this isn’t something that many people are confident with, which is why neutrals are the perfect thing to pair with pink. Any neutral (black, grey, navy, taupe, cream) will work well with the color for pretty much any season and while this may be a “safe” choice, it’s still a very stylish one.
Choose the Right Accessories
As I get older, I realize that the right accessories really do matter when it comes to styling. I think that this is really where your particular style can shine! You can add some sass with a sparkly day clutch or look polished with a neutral structured handbag (and everything in between). For a more sophisticated look, I recommend daintier, classic jewelry or a pair of chic statement earrings but if your heart yearns for something more “fun,” then don’t be afraid to wear it. Fashion is after all an expression of YOU.
Be Thoughtful With the Frills
I can’t even believe I’m saying this because I definitely lean more on the “more is more” perspective of styling but sometimes an abundance of frills can look a little too young. Instead, be more intentional with the details – choose a piece with a ruffled hem or a bow detail or a delicate embellished collar…just don’t wear them all at the same time 😉 Simplicity and minimalism definitely work better in this case.
As always, these are just suggestions for a more streamlined, sophisticated look and not tried and true “rules” as everyone’s style differs.
