It may come as no surprise that one of the biggest trends for 2019 is… hair accessories! This is my absolute favorite trend of the year and I just can’t get enough! This is partly because I’ve always been a collector of gorgeous hair accessories and while I wore them before they were “trending,” it’s fun to see that they are back in style 🙂 Read on to see which hair accessory trends are my favorite!
With a vast collection rivaling even the great Blair Waldorf’s, it’s safe to say that headbands are definitely my favorite way to accessorize. Headbands are kind of like dresses in a way… super easy to wear (especially since my hair is down 99% of the time) and they always make you look put-together! Most of my collection consists of headbands with bows, jeweled embellishments, and pearls but I’m also really love the ultra-trendy turban style! Simple headbands are also a great way to make a minimal statement but personally, I’m a more is more kind of girl and I love being a little extra 😉
Hair clips are by far the biggest of the current hair accessory trends, especially the 90s style hair clips. Just one scroll through your Instagram feed and you’ll see that large pearl hair clips in particular are insanely popular! Other popular choices are graphic bedazzled lettering, fun elementary shapes (stars, hearts, circles, squares, etc), and embellished bobby pins. For this trend, bold is better and I saw A LOT of this backstage during NYFW. My hair clips of choice are dainty embellished bobby pins, feminine designs (dragonflies, flowers, etc), and anything with pearls. I also love using gorgeous vintage brooches as hair clips!
Hair bows have always been a staple in my wardrobe and while they may not be for everyone, I think they will always remain a classic. Currently, larger hair bows are trending and I seriously cannot get enough! In my personal collection, I have bows of every size and nearly every color; bows that I’ve collected for over a decade that are made from beautiful fabrics such as organza, velvet, lace, and satin along with delicate embellishments like jewels and pearls. I even have a handful of bows that I’ve made myself! For a more delicate look, I love tying a simple ribbon in my hair in a neutral or pink shade.
Other Hair Accessories
While not actually a “hair accessory,” using a silk scarf or the like in your hair is a fun way to accessorize! I also love headbands that look like mini crowns and think this style in particular is perfect for a more formal occasion. I also adore more unique items such as the headband above. It has two attached chiffon ribbons and you can seriously style it a million ways (see the proof in this post!). Another popular choice is a scrunchie, particularly ones that have attached bows (a retro update I love!). I love that there are sooo many different hair accessory options for any style!
