6 Easy Ways to Feel More Confident

I can’t believe that July is already here! Anddd another Motivational Monday post to get your month started off right 😉 Today I’m talking about something that I often have trouble with…confidence. Read on for 6 easy ways to feel more confident!

I’ve struggled with confidence for as long as I can remember and honestly, I think a lot of you can relate. In a world where we constantly compare ourselves to others, being confident in ourselves can be such a challenge. As I get older, I’m learning that the power of confidence doesn’t come from what other’s think about me, but instead what I think about me. Let’s be honest, a confidence boost makes us feel happier, prettier, funnier, more powerful, more talented, more successful, etc…and seriously, why wouldn’t we want to feel like that? For some reason, it’s so much easier to tear ourselves apart and constantly find things that we need to work on or flaws that need to be fixed or just flat out give up because we feel like we aren’t good enough. The thing is we ARE good enough and we deserve to feel happy in our own skin. Here are few easy ways to feel more confident:

 

Dress the Part

Our outward appearance tends to mimic how we feel on the inside. If we are having a bad day or feeling insecure with ourselves, that usually shows in how we dress and although you may not realize it, everything we wear and the way we present ourselves gives off a silent message to others regarding the way we see ourselves. One simple way to boost your mood (and your confidence) is by…wearing an amazing outfit! Are you surprised? Getting ready for the day (and I mean, actually ready) can be a huge mood booster! Wearing the right clothing can make you feel beautiful, powerful, successful, happy, smart, and more confident. Not only does it boost our mood but it also sends the message to others that you are confident in who you are. People that take pride in their appearance are usually well respected and taken more seriously. This doesn’t mean that you have to constantly go shopping for new clothes or wear the most expensive clothing, but rather that you should wear clothes that make YOU feel confident – clothing that fits well, flatters your figure and makes you happy. I should also note that scientifically, color is a known mood booster. Your mood can change just by looking at certain colors so can you imagine how amazing you will feel when you are wearing it?

 

Posture and Body Language

One of the biggest signs of confidence is having good posture. Standing tall and sitting straight up can instantly boost your confidence and convey that message to others as well while slouching can have the opposite effect. Body language is crucial as well. Although it can be hard, maintaining eye contact with others can send the signal that you are not only confident in yourself but that you are also interested in what others have to say. Engage with others – say hello and get to know them. I know that it seems nerve-racking, but you have to remember that other people are just as nervous as you are and when a friendly face initiates a conversation, the stress is taken off the other person. Most importantly, SMILE. In my experience, I’ve found smiling to be contagious. When you radiate light to others, they radiate it back…and to others. You can not only change how other people perceive you, but how others view themselves and that is so powerful.

 

Practice Makes Perfect

I have found that I’m most confident when I’m doing something that I know I’m good at. It gives me a huge confidence boost and makes me feel good about myself and my abilities whereas doing something that I’m not so great at tends to make me doubt myself. Continue to do the things you excel at to remind yourself of how amazing you truly are and keep practicing the things you aren’t great at because eventually it will be one of your strengths.

 

Remind Yourself of Your Successes

One thing that really boosts my confidence is to think of previous successes. I like to create a list of accomplishments (big and small) to look back on when I’m feeling low. Almost immediately, I feel more motivated, inspired and confident to take on the next challenge. Sometimes we just need a little reminder of how far we’ve come with our goals and talents because those things can easily be forgotten.

 

Fake It ‘Til You Make It

I never really thought too much about this until recently, but it’s true. Yes, you still have to work hard and put in effort for things to happen BUT I believe that shifting your mindset can completely change everything. To put it simply, in order to be more confident, act as a confident person would. Don’t wait for things to happen, MAKE them happen..even if that means you have to “fake it” for a while. What you think about yourself and what you visualize becomes your reality.

 

Learn to Love Yourself

Most of the time, feeling unconfident stems from feeling inadequate about ourselves. We tend to pick ourselves apart in every aspect – physically, mentally and emotionally  – and a lot of times this comes from comparing ourselves to others. Just know that there is no “right way” to look, act or be. We are all unique and have a unique set of goals and dreams and no two people’s paths will look the same. Learn not to compare yourself with other people, but with yourself instead. Always be growing as a person and learn not to be so hard on yourself when things don’t work out the way you thought they would. Remember that YOU are in control of the way you feel and that you are the only one that can change it. Learn to love every part of yourself  – “flaws” and all – because you only get one life to live.
