How to Dress for a Black Tie Wedding Dress Code
When dressing for a wedding, the most important thing to consider is the dress code. There are SO many options for summer wedding guest dresses but the formality and style depends heavily on the couple’s dress code. When it comes to a black tie wedding dress code, you’ll want to consider fabric, length, season and time of the day.
Traditionally, black tie wedding guest dresses are more formal than others – this means floor length gowns and luxurious fabrics. While it’s a more formal dress code, there is still a lot of wiggle room! When it comes to fabrics, look for silk, chiffon, lace, velvet, crepe, satin, etc. The formality will also depend on the time of day. For daytime black tie weddings (or spring and summer), I would go for light and airy gowns in light pastels or florals. For an evening wedding (or fall and winter), I would go for floor length dresses in darker colors or jewel tones.

This dress is super romantic with a ruffled neckline, bow tie straps and a drop waist silhouette. The fabric is super breezy and the overall design is very feminine and flattering. This is definitely a black tie wedding guest dress that you can style for everyday as well (a huge plus, in my book!). It would be perfect for a garden party or daytime wedding.

This dress was a complete surprise to me! I knew I would love it but I didn’t realize how much (it’s one of my husband’s faves too!). With soft pink florals, ruffles galore and a feminine silhouette, this beauty is a coquette dream. This is another summer wedding guest dress that I feel could be worn for occasions other than weddings. It would be a great for a garden party or daytime wedding. Plus it soo flattering! I think it would look amazing on any body type!

Can you tell this is one of my favorite summer black tie wedding guest dresses? I loved this dress so much that I got it in two colors! The first floral was pure perfection but I wanted to try a solid color too so I went with this beautiful lilac color. I think it’s so pretty, feminine and romantic. Like the first one, this can easily be worn for other events or styled more casually. Ideally, I think it would be gorgeous for a garden, beach or casual daytime wedding.

This dress is an Old Hollywood dream! I can definitely see it being worn by Marilyn Monroe with a faux fur wrap.With dainty bows, silky pink fabric and and elegant silhouette, this black tie wedding guest dress is perfect for the ladylike dresser. This one seems to be a bit dressier than the others so I think it would be perfect for an evening wedding. It also comes in a lot of beautiful colors (I’m swooning over the jewel tones!).
