What I Wore in Puerto Vallarta

Elizabeth Hugen of Lizzie in Lace shares her favorite summer outfits from Puerto Vallarta!

This trip was sponsored by the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board. As always, all opinions are my own.

My recent trip to Puerto Vallarta was an absolute dream! I’ll be sharing specifics about what we did, where we ate and where stayed soon (you can see more on my Instagram story highlights) but today, I wanted to share all of my outfits since many of you have been asking exactly what I wore in Puerto Vallarta 🙂

If I’m being honest, I’ve never really excelled at dressing for vacation. I find myself constantly checking weather updates and over-packing as a result. I just never know what to wear lol! With that being said, when I do travel, I find myself packing items that match the vibe of the location.

I had previously never been to Puerto Vallarta (and only recently went on a short Mexican cruise just a few months ago), but I imagined that the atmosphere of the city would be vibrant, colorful and a bit tropical. I’m pleased to say that I was right! I had so much fun choosing outfits for this trip and I felt like I fit right in. Plus I felt both cute and comfortable during our excursions – quite a difficult combination at times. 😉 Have a trip planned and wondering how to dress in Puerto Vallarta?

Read on to see what I wore in Puerto Vallarta!

What I Wore in Puerto Vallarta

Day Two

Sadly, the photos for my Day One/Travel outfit didn’t turn out so we’ll start with the second day! But if you must know, I wore a very comfortable floral Zara maxi dress. In fact, it’s the chiffon one that many of you loved from my Carmel trip!

I wore this during our morning Art walk with Vallarta 101 on the Malecon! We walked about two miles so I went with a cute tropical print dress, comfy flats and a wide brim hat for extra sun protection 😉 The bag was actually a gift from the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa in which we stayed. It’s locally made and we each got different colors… of course, they handpicked the pink for me since they saw that I loved pink so much! How sweet is that? I should also note that it was extremely humid and my hair ended up in some type of braid for the majority of the trip haha!

We had dinner at Casa Kimberly, a restaurant and boutique hotel that inhabit Elizabeth Taylor’s old home so of course, I wore my fanciest dress 😉 I definitely felt like Hollywood royalty with all the ruffles and I really loved the playful polka dot print. I paired it with a pearl headband, nude heels and a stylish handbag! Definitely one of my favorite Puerto Vallarta outfits!

After our Maiavé Spa excursion at the Sheraton (which I’ll be sharing next time!), I wore this darling floral dress around the hotel. I paired it with a cute hat, gold sandals and my round bag. Everyone just loved the colors, especially the hotel staff!

I wore this pretty little white dress to our chocolate making class at Choco Museo (can you believe that I didn’t get ANY chocolate on it??), for a walk around downtown perusing boutiques and to the El Dorado Restaurant Restaurant for dinner. It was really comfortable to wear and I think it’s just such a pretty dress! I paired it with gold sandals and my pearl embellished handbag.

The majority of the day was spent on a Yacht with Vallarta Adventures! Since I’m still healing from my awful sunburn from a few weeks ago, I opted for more coverage by pairing a lightweight wrap top and floppy hat with my maxi dress. I just loved the candy colored stripes and tassel details. This whole outfit was very lightweight and easy to take on and off, which is important since we did a variety of things both on the boat and in the water!

To end our last full day, I wore one of my favorite summer maxi dresses! If there was ever a dress that reminded me of Mexico, it’s this one. And it may look familiar because I actually wore it to explore Ensenada during our cruise! This dress actually came in one my Rent the Runway subscriptions and I loved it so much that I decided to keep it 🙂

Other Tips for What to Wear in Puerto Vallarta

We came during the low season when it was very, very humid so I can only speak from my experience. And when I say humid, I mean take three showers a day kind of humid haha! I’m used to 115 degree weather and while it was nowhere near that temperature, I didn’t have a lot experience with extreme humidity since we have a very dry heat. It was definitely different lol! When it comes to whaat to wear to Puerto Vallarta, I recommend bringing the following:

  • Lightweight Clothing – I recommend maxi dresses or knee-length dresses (I do not recommend jeans or tight clothing)
  • Comfortable Shoes – It’s a very walkable city and there are a lot of beautiful things to see but many of the streets are cobblestone or located on a hill.
  • A Wide-brim Hat – Your hair is probably going to be a mess anyway so don’t worry about “hat hair” 😉
  • Sunscreen – This one should be obvious
  • Sunglasses – So important to bring for the pool, beach, etc.
  • Bug Repellent – I got bit by tons of mosquitoes on the first night so I recommend bringing along a small spray
  • Blotting Tissues – Highly recommend stashing some of these in your purse for on-the-go skin touch ups!
  • Multiple Swimsuits – There are so many water activities available so it’s definitely smart to pack at least two swimsuits
  • Hair Ties – I promise that you will not want to wear your hair down lol!
  • Dramamine – I totally forgot mine and got soooo sea sick on the boat and when we went snorkeling!

Which of these Puerto Vallarta outfits is your favorite?
