Since it’s Giving Tuesday, I thought I would share just a few of my favorite ways to give back during the holidays!
Christmas time is my favorite for many reasons, with the most important being that I’m a big believer in spreading holiday cheer. I feel like we often get so wrapped up in holiday shopping, parties, and decadent meals that we forget about those that don’t have access to basic necessities, those that are going through a rough time or those that don’t have anyone to celebrate the season with, which is why I’m sharing three ways to give back this holiday season!

3 Ways to Give Back This Holiday Season
Donate
Donating is something that I do year round. I clean out my closet once a month and take things I don’t need or use anymore to the local homeless shelter. Homelessness is a cause that is very dear to my heart so it makes me feel good knowing that items that are taking up space in my home can make someone else smile and even just help them get through the day. I feel like it’s even more important to donate during the holidays because warm clothing and blankets are a priority (and necessity) as the weather starts to cool down.
I also feel like donations give people a sense of hope and comfort knowing that others care about their well-being, especially during the holidays when it can feel quite lonely. Donation items like winter coats, cold weather accessories, shoes, socks, blankets, pillows, food and even toys and books are something that we often take for granted but these are small things that can make such a big difference in someone else’s life.
Encourage
The holidays can be a lonely and difficult time for some people so I feel like it more important than ever to share some encouragement. It can be something as simple as a note, quote, text, phone call, handwritten Christmas card or a few baked goods or a homemade item. The simplest things are sometimes the most meaningful and it’s such a great reminder to the other person that someone cares and is thinking of them.
Also if you have a friend or family member that has nowhere to go for the holidays, why not include them? This simple gesture goes a long way in making someone feel special and included. It’s also bound to create some really beautiful memories for both of you!
Pay it Forward
I truly believe that the good you give out to the world comes back to you. You never know what someone is going through and this small gesture could really brighten their day. You can pay it forward by paying for someone’s coffee, groceries, gas, leaving a bigger tip, etc (really, anything goes). Typically, when you pay it forward to someone, they end up paying it forward to someone else which keeps the chain of kindness going. As I mentioned, the holidays can be very difficult and lonely for some so showing a small gesture of kindness can go a long way, possibly even changing someone’s life for the better.

What a skirt! Wow! I have never actually visited that site until now, but they have some lovely pieces!
When I was in high school, I was introduced to an “adopt an angel” program from The Salvation Army. I don’t get to do it every year, but I do it when I can. I pick out a cute little outfit, make a little purse, and put in some things like a new toothbrush, hairbrush, hair clips, etc. I wish I could see the face of the little girl that receives it. Always makes me happy to participate in.

Lizzie, this is one of my favorite outfits on you. I love pale pinks and blues together. These photos are so gorgeous! I really like these 3 ideas for giving at the holidays. I always feel bad that I rarely give monetary donations, but after reading your part about donations, I realized that I donate a ton of stuff! Every time I clean out things, I always think maybe I will have a yard sale or try to resell online and I always end up just donating it all! Either to thrift shops, churches, or individuals in my community. It is such a wonderful way to help others especially if you aren’t in a position to make large monetary donations.
