It’s no secret that Barbie has been one of my biggest fashion idols since childhood. Being the pink fashion lover I am, Barbie’s outfits have always been iconic for so many reasons and they’ve served as inspiration for some of my favorite fashion looks over the years. One of my most iconic looks might just be this very outfit.
With hot pink everything and Barbiecore style trending all over the internet, it’s never been easier to take inspiration from one of our favorite nostalgic figures. And to be honest, I’m loving every second of it. Since Barbie the Movie was announced, I’ve been counting down the days and looking for the perfect pink Barbie outfit to wear to the premiere. I’ve finally found it and let me tell you, it’s more special than you know.

My history with Barbie is very interesting. Growing up, I absolutely ADORED playing with my Barbie collection and loved changing up my Barbie’s style every chance I got. Once I learned how to sew, I started designing and creating clothing for my each of my Barbie dolls. I wasn’t the only fan in the family though.
My great-grandmother (the one that owned the antique store and inspired my love of vintage collecting) was a tried and true Barbie collector. She had EVERY SINGLE DOLL. I am not joking. I absolutely loved going to her house to look at her vintage collectibles and admire her Barbie collection. Truthfully, I’ve never seen a more impressive collection since.
I’ve noticed an uptick in nostalgic things within the last few years and the resurgence of Barbie has brought about so many warm and fuzzy feelings! As a millennial, I grew up with Barbie (no Bratz dolls here!) and although there has been controversy over the years, the nostalgia of my youth is only filled with good memories of Barbie. And given the connection to my great grandmother, this “trend” is incredibly special to me.
Now what’s so special about this dress, you ask? This very dress is actually heavily inspired by one of Barbie’s outfits – the 1962 Garden Party Dress. With a white background, pink pin dots, a rosey floral print and pink belt, it mimics the dress to near perfection. Given that I love vintage style, I wanted to recreate the look even more so I added a vintage pink 1960s handbag, short vintage white gloves and simple white heels. I also included my signature pearl headband, a pearl necklace and a fun pair of white cat eye sunglasses. The result is pure Barbie perfection!
