Is there anything more Southern than a gorgeous spring dress? Long and flowy dresses, knee length fit and flare styles and fitted silhouettes seem to reign supreme when it comes to Kentucky Derby fashion. Some prefer solid and soft color options while others gravitate toward prints and bright colors. In my opinion, this is where you can really let your personal style shine (without taking away from your hat, of course!).
Pretty Pastels & Bright Colors
Pretty pastels and bright colors embody the unique essence of Kentucky Derby style! Personally, I’m more of a pastel type of gal and I gravitate toward soft colors that are feminine, romantic and elegant. However, I also love bright and bold hues – they are fun, exciting and stand out in a crowd. Wear either in sold form or as part of a print to complete your look!
Floral Prints
Although, polka dots and equine prints seem to be popular, floral prints are a classic style staple of Southern fashion. And when it comes to creating a Kentucky Derby outfit, more is better! You want to stand out and have fun with your outfit! If opting for floral prints, choose one that is bold, bright and feminine, and that most importantly, compliments your accessories.
Interesting Headwear
No Kentucky Derby outfit is complete without a hat! Personally, I think that this is probably what most people associate with the Kentucky Derby. A decorative wide brim hat, an over-the-top fascinator or an embellished headband really make your look. Colors, feathers, florals, bows, ribbons and other interesting elements make you stand out in a sea of fashionable headwear.
