Happy (motivation) Monday, lovelies!
This past weekend, I was invited to a fitness and wellness event put on by Shape magazine (if you watched my IG stories, then you got a first hand look BTS!). Not only was it an incredible event with so many inspiring women, but it also got me thinking about a few things. One class in particular talked about how to stay motivated – the points she made really spoke to me and I wanted to share because I know we can all get in a rut where we doubt ourselves and lose motivation for our goals. Read on for 5 simple steps on how to stay motivated!

Sometimes we just need a good reminder that it’s okay to put ourselves first. We all have goals and dreams, no matter how big or how small, but sometimes we get off track and lose the motivation to get to get to where we want to be. Perhaps we run into obstacles and think that it’s “not meant to be” or that it’s just easier to give up, but more often, we sabotage ourselves with negative thoughts and deem ourselves somehow unworthy of everything we have achieved and everything we want to achieve. This is why it’s so important to know your worth and be diligent about creating a positive mindset for yourself.
1.) Ditch the Negative Self Thoughts
So many times, we self sabotage – we tell ourselves that we aren’t pretty enough, skinny enough, talented enough, smart enough, strong enough, etc. These thoughts stem from things others have said, past experiences and the way we compare ourselves to others constantly. Even though these things aren’t true, we tell them to ourselves enough to actually believe them and when we think badly about ourselves, we end up with low self esteem. I truly believe that confidence is linked to motivation. When I’m confident in my abilities, then I’m motivated to do it. On the contrary, when we feel bad about ourselves, especially the way we look, then we lose motivation to do things because we don’t value ourselves. We think that we, somehow, don’t deserve it or we aren’t worth it and when good things happen, we often think that it must be some kind of mistake.
2.) Realize That You Are Worthy
The thing is if we can tell ourselves negative self thoughts and believe them as much as we do, couldn’t we replace it with positive thoughts instead? Unfortunately, no one else can make you value yourself. No one else can truly make you feel beautiful, strong, intelligent, or talented. You have to realize that you are worthy of all the love, happiness and success that comes your way. We are all unique individuals and if you were to never believe in yourself or share your gifts, then you would potentially be holding back something valuable that the world needs.
3.) Make Yourself a Priority
So many of us ladies put others before ourselves and while we see this as a caring act, it can actually be harmful if done regularly. What’s even worse is that some people get accustomed to being taken care of and just take take take until you have nothing left to give, not even to yourself and if you even try to take time for yourself, you are seen as the bad person. You must stop this cycle before it even begins. This isn’t to say that you can never help people, but more so just a reminder that you must put yourself first, even before others. After all, how can you care for others if you can’t care for yourself? Make yourself a priority! Take care of yourself – your mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional health. Make time for yourself to be alone and truly get to know yourself by reflecting. I know it can be scary to do this because being alone means that you have to come to terms with your insecurities, but this is essential in moving forward. Remember that you cannot be everything to everyone and that you are NOT selfish for taking time for yourself. No one else will make you a priority except for YOU.
4.) Push Through the Pain
Truly reflecting on your insecurities and coming to terms with the way you feel about yourself is hard. It’s even harder to try to change things, but in order to move forward and achieve your goals, it’s necessary. What is it that you want to change? Is it your diet? Weight loss? A career change? Moving on from a relationship? Cutting out toxic people? Maybe you just don’t know how to reach your goals…maybe you just keep getting shut down over and over…maybe you’re not even sure if it’s still worth it to pursue your dreams – it is. Nothing with having comes easy and not everyone will support you, especially if they don’t understand. Through this process, you may lose friends, family, co-workers and significant others, which is why it’s so important to find those that DO support you. It will be tough emotionally, physically, and mentally. You may cry, you may doubt yourself, you may even wonder why you keep pushing yourself toward this goal, but I promise you there is a light at the end of the tunnel and the pain will be worth it in the end. After all, the temptation to quit is always the strongest before you succeed. 😉
5.) Be a Light to Yourself and Others
Somehow, when we build up other’s self-esteem, we end up building up our own in the process. Helping someone reach their goals, offering support or even a genuine compliment will make a world of difference to someone else (and to yourself). I find that when you give to others, they give back to you. How incredible would it be if we all did this? We wouldn’t feel the urge to compete with one another or to compare our lives to each other constantly because we would happy with our own life.
I know that this process is so much more easier said than done, but know that taking it one small step at a time will have a big impact on your future and that each little change will get you closer to your goals. I hope you all have an amazing start your week 🙂
