They actually got their start in 1800s rural Switzerland (my favorite travel destination ever!) with the creation of a healing ointment. EltaMD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46
I can definitely see why this is a best-seller! The EltaMD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 sunscreen has tons of raving reviews and beauty awards! With a reputation like this, I knew I had to add it to top of my list. This facial sunscreen has a nice formula and the consistency feels like a moisturizer. Although it’s white, it did not leave behind a white cast, which is amazing!
For facial sunscreens, I always always always apply to my neck, chest and the back of my hands for even more coverage (especially now that I’m getting a bit older). The formula for this EltaMD sunscreen for the face is sheer, lightweight and did not leave behind a greasy residue. In fact, it actually made my skin look better!

EltaMD UV Clear Tinted Broad-Spectrum SPF 46
In my opinion, the EltaMD UV Clear Tinted Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 sunscreen is the same as the one above but with a tint. There are two different tints – a light to medium tint and a deeper tint. Like the clear one, this EltaMD face sunscreen is great for acne prone skin but there is a different version available to moisturize dry skin as well.
Tinted sunscreens, in particular, have become part of my daily skincare routine. For those days when I’m not wearing makeup, I ALWAYS opt for a tinted sunscreen instead. At first, I wasn’t sure about the color since I have such fair skin. However, once I applied it to my face and rubbed it in, it magically disappeared leaving behind a flawless finish. This EltaMD tinted UV clear sunscreen is another great option for the neck and chest – like your skin but better!

I’ve been a long-time fan of spray sunscreens and the EltaMD UV AOX Mist Broad-Spectrum SPF 40 is my new fave! Sprays are honestly so quick and simple to use. Even if you’re running out the door and don’t have time to apply a liquid sunscreen, a quick spritz will do the trick. As with any sunscreen, I always rub it in after spraying just to ensure even coverage.
While this EltaMD spray sunscreen can be used on your face and body, I typically only use it on my body. If I do use a spray sunscreen for my face, I prefer to spray it onto my hands to apply that way. Overall the formula is really nice for this EltaMD body sunscreen and I love how simple it is to use!

EltaMD UV Stick Broad-Spectrum SPF 50+
Stick sunscreens are among my very favorite! It makes re-applying on the go a breeze. I always have one in my handbag wherever I go, especially for longer road trips. The EltaMD UV Stick Broad-Spectrum SPF 50+ is the perfect size for travel. You can easily throw into a handbag, dress pocket, carry-on, etc.
This EltaMD mineral sunscreen is petite yet powerful with a non-greasy formula that blends easily. This stick sunscreen can used on your face and body for optimal sun protection. Personally, I use it on my face if I’m not wearing makeup but if I am, I’ll usually just got for a liquid sunscreen instead. This is great for re-applications so I love using it on my hands, arms and chest when I’m out and about.

EltaMD UV Lip Balm Broad-Spectrum SPF 36
When I saw the EltaMD UV Lip Balm Broad-Spectrum SPF 36 sunscreen, I knew I had to give it a try! My sunscreen obsession is almost as deep ass my skincare obsession and having a lip sunscreen makes for a more well-rounded routine. This is actually my very first sunscreen for lips so I really don’t have anything to compare it to.
Overall, I like the texture of this lip balm and I do feel that it moisturizes and protects wonderfully. I did notice a slight white cast but it actually made my lips look really pretty! They looked very smooth and it lightened my natural lip color ever so slightly to a lovely light pink. I would love to see another version with a clear formula for a glossy look! How fabulous would that be?

So now to answer the real question – which EltaMD sunscreen is the best? It depends what you are looking for. Honestly, it’s a tough choice because I love them all for different reasons. The lip sunscreen offers protection while also moisturizing my lips. The spray sunscreen is super simple to use and great for covering a large area of skin at once. And the stick sunscreen is portable and lightweight making it the perfect travel companion for easy re-applications. But what about the facial sunscreens?
EltaMD tinted vs EltaMD clear
The facial sunscreens are, no doubt, a best-seller for a reason but which one is better? The clear version is a great all around facial sunscreen. Makeup goes on nicely after application and it doesn’t leave behind a white cast. The tinted version offers a naturally flawless look with an easy step- application (optimal for those that don’t wear makeup). Personally, the EltaMD tinted facial sunscreen has become my go to for everyday because I love having that light coverage. For days when I’m wearing makeup or prefer no tint, EltaMD clear sunscreen does the job beautifully.
