Easy Dip Powder Nails at Home: Powderful Nails Review
When it comes to nails, I’m pretty no nonsense. I’ve always preferred a simple nail that will go with all of my outfits. I wear a lot of color (mainly pink) so my nail colors never clash but instead enhance my look overall. I tend to go for soft pinks, mauve, lilac, and a sheer milky cream color. For summer, I do go a bit brighter at times with various shades like Barbie pink, coral and magenta. This is mainly why I was drawn to the Powderful Nails Summer Kit – it has all of my favorite colors in one!
As for my actual nails, I always do them myself. In fact, I’ve only been to the salon one time (on my 11th birthday). This isn’t to say that I don’t enjoy primping myself or supporting my fellow nail technicians, because both are true. However, I’ve been an avid guitar player for the last 22 years and long nails don’t exactly work with guitar. Therefore, I keep my nails fairly short.
Up until now, I’ve mainly used traditional nail polish. It’s easy, convenient and I don’t have to feel bad if they chip from my guitar playing. Every now and then, I’ve tested certain nail products but many of them seem to be more work than they’re worth. Before this, I had never tried any products for nails with powder. Did they exceed my expectations and work with my lifestyle? Find out below!
What is Powderful Nails?
Powderful Nails is a dip powder nail brand that gives a salon-worthy experience at home! The brand was started during the pandemic when many businesses, including nail salons, were closed. They created a dip powder nail kit that was easy-to-use and beginner friendly yet would give salon-quality results. Since then, they’ve continued to spark joy, excitement, beauty and pride in each individual showing that that you can do your own nails and still feel beautiful!
What are dip powder nails?
Dip powder nail polish is a type of nail polish that involves dipping the nails in pigmented powder. This dipping process eliminates the need for multiple coats and excessive drying time unlike traditional nail polish. When it comes to powder nails vs gel or acrylic, it gentler as there are no harsh chemicals or UV exposure involved. Dip powder can be used on natural nails, artificial nails and even toe nails! With proper application and care, this nail polish with powder can last for weeks and of course, it can easily be removed at home.

How To: Dip Powder Nails
Dip Powder Nails Steps
Before starting, prep your nails and cuticles (make sure you push them back).
- Apply Primer to all nails.
- For each nail, one at a time: Apply Base Liquid and dip nail into clear nail powder (sold separately but HIGHLY recommend) at a 45 degree angle. Dust excess powder off with the duster brush.
- Re-apply Base Liquid and dip nail into nail powder color of your choice at a 45 degree angle, one by one. Brush excess powder off. Repeat this step.
- Use the pointed side of the cuticle pusher to trace the cuticle arch to prevent any product from adhering to the skin. Brush off access powder.
- Apply Activator to harden nails and allow to dry.
- Use a nail file to file sides, tip and any uneven ridges on the top of the nail. Finish with a nail buffer to smooth out any imperfections on the top. Brush off excess powder.
- Re-apply Activator.
- Apply Top Coat to all nails. Re-apply a second layer for a shinier finish.
- Apply Vitamin Oil to cuticles and rub in the excess.
Powderful Nails Review
Overall, I had a great experience with Powderful Nails! This was my first time using a dip powder nails kit and I found it very beginner friendly. The first time took a bit longer because I had no idea what I was doing but after that, it’s been a breeze! I love all of the colors and I also love that the kit comes with everything you need for gorgeous at home dip powder nails. My hands look so much prettier and more elegant – I just love the shiny finish!
As for my lifestyle, they’ve held up pretty well! As a blogger and musician, I work a lot with my hands – typing away constantly, handling many different things and of course, playing guitar, piano and anything else I can get my hands on. Even with aggressive finger picking and strumming, I found no issues with chips, which is incredible! For me, each set has held up for one and half to two weeks before I’ve started to see any chipping or cracks. Previously, my traditional nail polish would hold up 5-7 days before chipping.
My experience with Powderful Nails and nails with dip powder, in general, has been extraordinarily pleasant! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the products and giving myself a manicure as part of my self-care routine and at home spa days! I will definitely keep using this and plan to add more colors to my collection!
