I’m not going to lie. Ever since the Barbie movie was announced, I’ve been patiently (or let’s be real… impatiently) waiting for it’s debut. I truly haven’t been this excited about a movie in a longgg time! The fashion, of course, is what drew me in because I love a good stylish movie (this is the main reason why I’m so drawn to classic Old Hollywood films). The storyline also looks adorable and it has a very nostalgic vibe.
My great-grandmother was an avid Barbie collector. I bet she had every single one ever made! I always enjoyed going to her house to look at her collection, mainly to obsess over their outfits. My very favorite, of course, was her Cinderella Barbie. Playing with Barbies was a big part of my childhood and as soon as I learned how to sew, they became part of my fashion journey as well as I designed and created clothing for them.
Since Barbie and all of her fashionable outfits were such an important part of my life growing up, it’s only natural that I’d gravitate toward something that brings back those beautiful memories. To me, that’s what the main draw of this movie is and if I’m being honest, I must say that I LOVE all of the nostalgia in the media as of late. From Y2K fashion, a Hello Kitty resurgence and taking trips back to the past via tv shows and movies, I’m loving it all!
With that being said, I was inspired to style a pink Barbie outfit for modern day. Pink is my jam so this is definitely up my alley and something that I’d wear regardless. This Eva Franco mini dress was the perfect piece to start off my ensemble. It has a very 1950’s look to it that I love! I layered a white puff sleeve top underneath to add a modern touch and create an even more feminine silhouette. I added a fun floral statement heel, a classic quilted handbag and lots of pearls! The pearls and hibiscus shoes give the entire look a summery vibe without being too obvious.
Overall, I love how this outfit turned out and I love the inspiration behind it! I’ll definitely be wearing this to the new Barbie movie 😉
