Once upon a time, I tried permanent hair extensions for the first (and only time). Tragically, it was a terrible experience and as a way to feel confident and beautiful while growing back my natural hair, I turned to temporary hair extensions. It’s been 8 years and I’ve never looked back!
But how do AquaLyna hair extensions compare to those I’ve tried in the past? Do they live up to the hype? Find out below in my honest AquaLyna hair extensions review!

AquaLyna Hair Extensions Review: Aura Halo vs Clip-Ins (Most Platinum Blonde)
What is AquaLyna?
If you’ve been searching for high-quality hair extensions that feel both luxurious and easy to wear, AquaLyna is a brand that has been gaining a lot of attention lately. Created as a direct-to-consumer extension of Aqua, AquaLyna brings salon-quality extensions directly to you – making it easier than ever to achieve that soft, voluminous, feminine hair at home.
I recently tried two of their styles:
- the Aura (halo-style extension) in 60 Most Platinum, 20 inch
- the Ultra Narrow Clip-Ins in 60 Most Platinum, 18 inch
And if you love soft, romantic, voluminous hair… these are absolutely worth talking about. Let’s get into it!
First Impressions of AquaLyna Hair Extensions
Firstly, the packaging is to die for!! I love the dreamy aqua color. Upon opening, it reveals the extensions packed carefully in a silky aqua bag on a bed on light gold satin. My immediate thoughts were about how much the packaging reminded me of a storybook – so enchanting!
Regarding the extensions, the first thing I noticed was how soft and silky the hair felt. The quality immediately stood out. It had that smooth, healthy finish that I knew would blend beautifully with my natural hair. Both styles feel lightweight, comfortable to wear and very natural-looking. They give that effortless, romantic fullness without feeling heavy or overly styled.
AquaLyna Color Match: 60 Most Platinum
Color matching is always one of the most important parts of choosing extensions, especially for blondes. I’ve had some color matching issues in the past but this was a breeze. I found the platinum blonde hair extensions that most looked like my hair and went with that (although I know customer service would be very happy to help color match, if needed). I have very light blonde hair with highlights, which leans a bit neutral to cool so I chose 60 Most Platinum.
The 60 Most Platinum shade is a very light, cool-toned blonde that works beautifully if you have:
- platinum blonde hair
- icy blonde tones
- neutral to cool undertones
What I loved most is that the color doesn’t look flat. It still has dimension while maintaining that bright, clean blonde tone. It blended seamlessly with my hair and felt very true to a soft platinum blonde. Definitely the best platinum blonde extensions I’ve tried color-wise!
AquaLyna Aura Halo Extensions (20”)
The Aura is AquaLyna’s version of a halo extension, similar to styles you may have seen from other brands I’ve tried. And although it’s similar to other halo extensions, this one is very different! It’s highly customizable with varying sizes of “invisible wire” (7 sizes ranging from XXS to XXL) and sizing loops to ensure a perfect fit for any head size. It does also come with 6 detachable velco clips (3 on the Aura and 3 extra) to ensure extra stability.
I have a really small head so I chose the XXS size and it was still too big. After playing with it a bit, I was able to perfectly fit it to my head! Putting on the Aura took hardly any time at all (maybe 30 seconds) and styling it was a breeze. It held my curls all day and felt very comfortable on. I love the length of this as well – it’s super glam and princessy! They come in 16″, 20″ and 24″ lengths – although, I do wish they offered this in an 18″ length as well.

AquaLyna Ultra Narrow Clip-In Extensions (18”)
The Ultra Narrow Clip-Ins are ideal if you want more customizable volume and placement. It’s very similar to other clip-in styles I’ve tried but these are very slim ensuring a seamless fit! It comes with 7 pieces – two 4-clip pieces, three 3-clip pieces and two 2-clip pieces.
In the photo above, I’m wearing 5 of the 7 pieces (one 4-clip, two 3-clips and two 2-clips). I found this to be a great natural and everyday look but love that I can add the other two for even more volume. The 18″ length is perfect and it blended super well with my natural hair. They are also incredibly versatile. In the past, I’ve created all kinds of unique hairstyles with clip-ins!
Time-wise, this one was more time intensive than the Aura taking around 5 minutes to insert all of the clips. They stayed in place all day and were very comfortable. The only thing I felt was missing was a couple of 1-clip pieces. I always appreciate these since my head is on the smaller side! Most colors come in many different lengths – 18″, 20″, 22″, 24″ and 26″.

AquaLyna Hair Quality & Overall Performance
The quality of AquaLyna extensions feels very comparable to other high-end brands, in my opinion!
The hair is:
- soft and smooth
- easy to style
- holds curls well
- doesn’t feel overly processed
With proper care, these extensions can last and continue to look beautiful over time. To make them last even longer, appropriate storage and regular cleansing is important. You can store them in the box or bag they came in but I personally love using an extension hanger and bag.

Halo vs Clip-In Hair Extensions: Which Is Better?
One of the most common questions when choosing hair extensions is whether a halo or clip-in extensions are the better option. The answer really depends on your lifestyle, styling preferences, and how much versatility you’re looking for. Both options create beautiful, voluminous hair but they offer very different experiences.
Halo Hair Extensions (Like the AquaLyna Aura)
Halo extensions, like the AquaLyna Aura, are designed for ease and simplicity. They sit on your head using a nearly invisible wire, with your natural hair layered over the top to blend everything seamlessly.

Clip-In Hair Extensions (Like AquaLyna Ultra Narrow Clip-Ins)
Clip-in extensions offer more control and customization. They attach directly to your natural hair using small clips, allowing you to place them exactly where you want volume or length.
Best for:

- adding targeted volume
- special occasions or glam looks

If you love styling your hair and want more versatility, clip-ins give you that extra level of control. I love that I’m able to customize the volume and have the ability to create other hairstyles like updos, ponytails, braids, crowns, etc.
AquaLyna Review: My Personal Experience
Personally, I prefer to have both on hand so I can create a variety of styles (especially as a blogger and creator). The aura is perfect for those effortless, everyday moments when I want soft, romantic volume with minimal effort. The clip-ins are ideal when I want a bit more structure, fullness, or a more styled look. They really complement each other beautifully depending on the look I’m going for!
In the photo above, you can view what the clip-in extensions look like straight (out of the package) as well as curled (this was after a full day of wear). There’s also a beautiful sheen to the hair that is very natural! Some brands get it wrong with too much shine but AquaLyna really perfected it.
AquaLyna vs Other Extension Brands
If you’ve tried extensions before, you might be wondering how AquaLyna compares to other popular brands.
AquaLyna vs Luxy Hair
Luxy is known for accessibility and beginner-friendly extensions. AquaLyna feels slightly more refined and salon-inspired in terms of finish and texture. I really love the customizability of the Aura as well but both brands offer beautiful options and similar quality (in my opinion).
AquaLyna vs Hidden Crown
Sadly, Hidden Crown is no more 🙁 This was my go to for many, many years. If you are familiar with Hidden Crown, they used to offer a few different halo styles – Daydream (for everyday volume), the original Hidden Crown (for noticeable volume) and Layers (for ultra glam volume). The AquaLyna Aura is close to the original Hidden Crown but lighter weight and I love that! I would LOVE for them to make different variations of the Aura!!
AquaLyna vs Irresistible Me
Irresistible Me offers a wide variety of styles, but AquaLyna stands out for its elevated quality and softness, especially for achieving a more polished, romantic look. Truthfully, I was not a fan of the Irresistible Me hair extensions quality, coloring or look (although this was nearly a decade ago).
AquaLyna Hair Extensions Review: Are they worth it?
If you’re trying to decide between the two:
- Choose the Aura if you want something quick, easy, and beginner-friendly
- Choose the clip-ins if you want versatility and more styling control
Or honestly… a combination of both gives you the best of both worlds 😉
AquaLyna feels like a beautiful blend of salon-quality hair and everyday ease. Both the Aura halo and Ultra Narrow Clip-Ins offer something different, but together they create a versatile system for achieving soft, voluminous, and feminine fairytale hair. If you love romantic hairstyles and want extensions that feel natural, lightweight, and easy to wear, these are definitely worth considering.
I absolutely love these natural looking hair extensions so far and when I’ve worn them out, I’ve gotten tons of compliments on my hair. Many people were incredibly surprised my hear that it wasn’t natural hehe!
