The moment I laid eyes on this 1950s inspired blazer and skirt set, I knew it had to be mine! When it comes to personal style, 50s fashion has been huge inspiration for me. I almost always incorporate some type of element from the past whether it’s the silhouette, design elements, colors, or actual vintage items.

The funny thing is that this is not my typical silhouette. For dresses and skirts, I almost always gravitate toward designs that nip in the waist and flare out. This is partially due to not only style preference but fit. My hips have always been 1-2 sizes larger than my waist so pencil skirts were a no-no. If it fit my hips, then it was gaping at the waist and if it fit my waist… well, I wouldn’t know because it wouldn’t go past my hips lol! However, this vintage inspired outfit definitely changed my mind.

The fabric stretches just enough to fit my curves – it’s easy to walk in and sit in which is hard to come by with a pencil skirt. The blazer is equally flattering, coming in at the waist to create a feminine 1950s style silhouette. Initially I was scared that it wouldn’t fit when I got my normal size but I was pleasantly surprised to find not only a vintage inspired set that fits but that is high quality too!

It very much reminds me of a mix of Mad Men style along with 50s fashion icon, Marilyn Monroe. And though it’s not my typical outfit, I feel so beautiful and confident in this! To add to the retro flair, I styled it with my vintage white gloves. I also added a sleek block heel, fun handbag and pearl headband to bring it into modern day. I think the headband definitely gives it Gossip Girl vibes 😉
