The world is such a different place than it was a week ago and many are being forced to stay home. Everything is closing – schools, restaurants, bars, movie theatres, etc. While it’s hard not to think about the consequences of our current situation, just remember that this is temporary and we are all going through this together. It’s definitely a tough time and people are worried for their families, their careers and for the future. And while a lot of these consequences are physical, I definitely think that the mental consequences are being overlooked and this is something that we need to consider. This situation is beyond our control and honestly, there is nothing we can do but have faith… but we can choose how we react to the circumstances. Yes, it’s anxiety-inducing but I’ve found that it’s best to stay positive and to try to take your mind of of things so today, I’m sharing a 26 quarantine ideas to boost your mood! 🙂

I work from home so I’m used to quarantining myself off from the world haha 😉 But really, during this time there isn’t much work to do so I’m taking advantage of my free time by completing the projects on my to do list, spending time with my husband, learning new skills, filming youtube videos, creating art, writing music and connecting with you guys. I think that most people in general are very busy and always going going going. We rarely stop to smell the roses and to see the beauty already around us. Maybe this is the break we need to re-connect with our families, remind ourselves to slow down and to do things for ourselves (and perhaps even have a breakthrough)! I don’t know what the future holds but I do know that this is a good opportunity to see this as a glass half full situation. Here are a few quarantine ideas to boost your mood:

Wear a Pretty Outfit

Yes, most of us are at home but it’s been proven that wearing something we love and that makes us feel good can quickly turn around our mood. Use this as a time to experiment with different looks or to even create fun lookbooks on TikTok! Wear a ballgown just for fun or accessorize your coziest, chic loungewear set – just have fun and go wild! Speaking of outfits, how gorgeous is this floral dress and these pearl heels? *heart eyes*

Put on Makeup

Putting on makeup can be a very therapeutic activity. I’ve been making it a point to put on makeup (even if it’s just bb cream, mascara and lipgloss!) and it’s boosted my mood. If you’re really into makeup, try out some YouTube tutorials or better yet, create your own!

At-Home Spa Day

You all know I love my DIY spa day routine! I personally love taking a warm bubble bath, putting on a face mask, painting my nails and going through my complete skincare routine. It’s relaxing and very therapeutic!

Bubble Bath

If you’re not into the whole “spa day” routine, I recommend treating yourself to a luxurious bubble bath. I love adding a bit of extra virgin olive oil, lavender bath salts or a fun, glittery bath bomb and bubbles. As a bonus, you can also put a face mask in the fridge beforehand and use it as you bathe.

Burn Candles

I don’t stock up on TP but I do stock up on candles lol! I always have a candle burning and it instantly brings me joy. I especially love doing this when I read or relax.

Start a Gratitude Journal

This is something that I recently started and it’s been so helpful to me! It’s hard to stay positive when the news is literally everywhere you look and as a result there’s worry, fear and hysteria flooding social media and everyday life. Turn off the news, get off your phone and just be present. I recommend writing in a gratitude journal each morning or night – even if it’s just a list of things that you’re thankful for. It will remind you that there’s still a lot of good happening in your life <3

Meditate

I started meditating a few months ago and it has honestly worked wonders! There’s a lot of guided meditations on YouTube or on apps like HeadSpace. I usually stick to the 15-20 minute ones before I start my day and I choose a meditation based on what I need help with that day. Sometimes, I’ll even light a candle, put on a facemask and dab on some essential oils!

Yoga

I found yoga during my 2nd year of college and I’ve been practicing ever since! I recommend it to anyone and everyone because I feel that we can all benefit in some way whether it’s through flexibility, strength or mental clarity. Anddd there’s so many videos online so it’s super easy to do from home!

At-Home Workouts

I know that a lot of gyms are closing or people are simply just switching to at-home workouts for the time being. While many of us don’t have equipment, there are sooo many videos online that use body weight only. Plus there’s such a wide variety of things to do including dance classes, targeted workouts, barre, pilates, zumba, etc and you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment afterwards!

Go for a Hike

If you aren’t completely quarantined to the house, then going for a hike (or walk) outdoors is a nice option! I know that I always feel a sense of gratitude when I take a moment to just be present and see the beauty around me.

Netflix

Is there anything a Netflix binge can’t fix? Haha! I love rewatching old favorites like Gossip Girl and new faves like Schitt’s Creek! For Amazon, I love The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel along with their vintage movie variety.

Old Disney Movies

Disney movies are always a great escape from reality. Rewatching my faves (Beauty & the Beast, Cinderella, Tangled, Alice in Wonderland, etc) always bring a smile to my face!

Read

This is the perfect time to start that book you’ve been putting off forever. When I read, it’s just as much about the environment as it is about the acting of reading. I love creating a cozy corner on my couch, lighting a candle and making myself some tea.

Learn a New Skill

Have something in mind that you’ve always wanted to do but never had the time for? Now is the time! Personally, I’m going to be doing lotsss of video editing and starting other fun, time-intensive projects.

Learn a New Language

Learning a new language is always fun! I’m currently brushing up on my French skills and relearning sign language.

Learn an Instrument

Learning an instrument requires tons of practice, therefore this would be the perfect time to do so. Plus it’s a skill that you can come back to later on, whether it’s used through performance or relaxation.

Play Music

Playing music is also very therapeutic (not practicing, but actually playing). In fact, yesterday I played guitar for 30 minutes and instantly felt a boost in my mood!

Sing

It has the same effects as playing music and actually, you can do them together… or you can just belt out Frozen lyrics as you binge-watch Disney+ 😉

Dance

Sometimes we just need to have a dance party for no good reason. I’ll never forget the time I threw a “rave.” I took out my blacklights and strobelights (yes, I really owned these lol!), invited a group of friends and had one of them DJ. We had a blast dancing, jumping around and just acting like fools. So turn up your jams and just dance it all out!

Create Art

Art is one of those things that fell by the wayside as I got older. In fact, my major was in art and once I graduated, I didn’t have time to create anymore. Creating art is very therapeutic so grab your paint brush, pencils or cameras and start creating!

Crafts

One thing you may not know about me is that I’m very crafty. I love recycling things to create something new and just generally making things around me pretty with a unique touch. I also just learned how to arrange flowers and I had so much fun creating various arrangements, home decor and flower crowns (check out my tutorial here).

Bake or Cook

I love whipping up sweet treats! Cookies and cupcakes are my favorite to make! I also love making pasta noodles from scratch and I have an ice cream maker attachment that’s just begging for me to use it haha!

Declutter

Let’s face it… our homes are going to be immaculate after this lol. Clutter can cause anxiety so decluttering and freeing up your space can also free your mind. I love turning up my music and dancing around as I do this 🙂

Clean Out Your Closet

This is the perfect time to go through your spring/summer wardrobe (and actually I’m right in the middle of a huge clean out)! You can donate and make someone’s day or sell items to make some extra money.

Rearrange Home Decor

Sometimes we get bored of seeing the same space day in and day out, especially if we’re going to be stuck at home for while. Try rearranging a few things to make your space feel fresh again!

Face Time Calls

Make sure to schedule in some time with friends and loved ones via Face Time or Skype. It can get lonely being at home sometimes so this is the best way to still have human contact while also staying healthy.
