2022 Fashion Trends & Predictions for the Girly Girl

The time has come 🙂 I could not be more excited to share my 2022 fashion trends and predictions! 2022 is ALL about making a statement. There’s a sense of glamour, playfulness, and nostalgia and I just can’t get enough! With the resurgence of various decades and a plethora of pop culture inspiration, this might very well be my favorite year for fashion trends. Read on for my favorite 2022 fashion trends!

2022 Fashion Trends & Predictions for the Girly Girl

When it comes to fashion trends, I usually don’t follow them. However the 2022 fashion trends have proved to be very different in the fact that I already own and wear most of these items on a regular basis! A lot of these trends reflect my personal style and it just makes me so happy! This means that it’s going to be much easier to find things that I love (because trust me, it’s much harder when it’s not “trending” lol!).

Pearlcore

I am not kidding when I say that this has be one of my all-time favorite trends! I might be biased because I’m already such a lover of pearls but when you put them on everything, it just makes everything so much prettier! Pearls have been trending for a couple of years but I feel like it’s going to be EVERYWHERE in 2022. Classic pearls jewelry along with non-traditional will be trending but you can expect pearls to embellish everything from handbags, shoes and hair accessories to coats, tops and jeans.

Ballerina Chic

Ballet flats are coming back! I loveeee ballet flats and I wear them regardless of whether or not they’re trending. You can expect to see more design experimentation with the ballet flat, which I’m super excited about. I also think that this will trigger a “Ballerina Chic” trend – think soft skirts, wrap tops, bows, soft color palettes (light grey, cream, pale pink, etc). If so, I am here for it!

French Girl Style

I feel like this has been trending for a while but I think we will continue to see it increase even more in 2022. I think we might see two sides to it as well – the classic Parisian look with neutral colors, minimal details and effortless style along with a more Parisian inspired version a la Emily in Paris (berets, headscarves, bold colors, etc).

Gossip Girl Inspired

Recently I have noticed a HUGE increase in Gossip Girl inspired style. I think this might be due to the recent reboot. However, what I find interested is that the inspiration seems to be drawn from the original series, which makes sense since there has been an increase in both feminine and nostalgic trends. Items like blazers, mini skirts, headbands, tweed and even tights (colored, patterned and textured) are going to be huge 2022 fashion trends.

Y2K Inspired

Let’s start off with the largest and most obvious of the 2022 fashion trends – y2k style. I grew up in this era and it was so much fun! I also really love it this time around (although most of it might be a bit on the young side for me). I’ve noticed that not only is this clothing style coming back but this whole decade in general!! The music, the movies, the tv shows – it’s trending and honestly, it gives me all the warm and fuzzies 🙂 Talk about nostalgia!

Some of the key pieces for this trend are drop waist silhouettes, low waisted jeans, crop tops, bra tops, cropped cardigans, pastel colors and butterfly everything. While I won’t be giving into the low waisted jeans this time around, I’m definitely excited about all the pastels, butterfly inspiration and even the cropped cardigans (I had SO many cute ones back in the day)!

90s, 70s and 60s Fashion

2022 fashion trends are such a unique mix of eras!! Not only is y2k back but styles from the 90s, 70s and 60s have also made their appearance. I’m not typically a fan of 90s style but I do love the updated version, especially when concerning accessories. I love all the chain and gold jewelry as well as the baguette bags. For the 70s trends, I’ve noticed a lot of colors and fabrics from the era. I think that fringe, crochet, platforms and psychedelic prints will be big fashion trends this year! For the 60s, I’ve noticed that white boots have been trending for a while (I wear mine ALL the time). I think that we will see cut outs, shift styles, 1960s prints and possibly other things like hairstyles.

Regencycore

Regencycore has been a fashion trend for a while and I am literally obsessed! I think Bridgerton might be to blame 😉 This 2022 fashion trend is so up my alley – it’s glamorous, feminine and vintage inspired. It’s like a mix between Versailles and a Jane Austen novel. This style is composed of a corset style or empire waist, puff sleeves, voluminous silhouettes, flouncy details, hair accessories and regal embellishments. I also feel like this has inspired the resurgence of Edwardian style as well.

Cottagecore

In my opinion, Cottagecore is Regencycore’s casual sister. This  2022 fashion trend has been HUGE for the last couple of years and I think it will continue to be popular, especially in the spring and summer. Personally, I loveeee Cottagecore and I’ve said before that I considered my style Cottagecore before I even knew it was a thing haha. Dreamy floral prints, light colors, puff sleeves, cozy knits and flowy dresses will definitely be trending again this year.

Pretty Pajamas

I KNEW this was coming and I am thrilled! For SO long, I had a hard time finding pretty pajamas and now there are endless choices. With the craziness of the last few years and the increase in people being at home, it was only a matter of time before we felt we needed to trade in our tie dye sweet sets for something a little more glamorous. I predict that silk will reign supreme and that we will see more luxe details like feathers, embellishments, bows and lighter materials.

Fun Accessories

2022 fashion trends will be all about FUN! Fashion accessories are going to be colorful, bold and playful. I predict that unique shoes, bright colored bags, novelty bags, statement hats, fashion gloves and hair bows will be huge fashion trends for 2022. As you know, I love a fun shoe and novelty bag but what I’m most excited for are fashion gloves and bows!

Hair accessories have been trending for a few years now. Headbands, bobby pins, barrettes and even jaw clips have been making massive waves. It was only a matter of time before hair bows became the new “it” accessory. 2022 style bows can range from embellished luxury styles to a simple hair ribbon. Honestly, anything goes! As for fashion gloves, I think that a variety of styles will be trending including not only glamorous winter gloves but vintage styles and styles made from sheer delicate fabrics. Is this Paris Hilton’s doing? 😉

Feathers

I have been waiting for this! I feel like feathers make fashion so much fun! In the past, we’ve seen them on skirts, shoes and shirts sleeves but I feel like 2022 fashion is really going to amp it up! Feathers will be everywhere from handbags and dresses to shoes and pajamas. We really are living our most glamorous lives in 2022, aren’t we?

Bold Colors

Just like the fun nostalgic prints, bold colors are going to be trending in 2022! Very Peri was the pantone color of the year and I think it’s so beautiful. One of my favorites!! Aside from that, I can see fuchsia being everywhere!

White Monochrome

Monochrome looks have been trending for years and honestly, they are among some of my favorites! I especially love all white monochrome as it looks chic, elegant and effortless. If you need some tips for styling this look, check out this gorgeous winter white outfit!

Gingham

In my opinion, gingham is the official fabric of summer! With Cottagecore and the like trending for 2022, I feel like this is going to be bigger than ever. Aside from the normal gingham dresses, I can see this being used for matching sets (top and skirt, top and shorts, top and bloomers?). Matching sets have also been popular so I see this also continuing as one of the biggest 2022 fashion trends.

Romanic Velvet

Velvet has a slightly nostalgic vibe – a connection to the 2000’s but also very luxe at the same time. I think that the marrying of the most recent 2022 fashion trends has increased our love of velvet. I can see this being used in an a dark romantic style for fall and winter (and possibly spring for y2k style)

Metallics and Sparkle

When I said 2022 was all about glamour, I meant it! Sequins, metallics, sparkle and shiny satin fabric is going to be all the rage for 2022. After the dreariness of the last few years, we all need something to be excited about and it’s so interesting to see how everyday life has affected fashion trends. We’ve saw aa rise in fun colors and nostalgia inspired items last year – a way to bring happiness and joy into the world. And this year, I feel like we’ve almost evolved into a celebration phase. More people are trying to live their best lives and be their authentic selves and this really comes across in fashion. It’s a really beautiful thing to see. Fashion is not just about clothing and this proves it!
