Once a upon a time, I worked as a bank teller. We had to adhere to a strict dress code as what I can only describe as pure boredom. We were only allowed to wear certain things like dress pants, blouses, simple shoes, blazers, etc. As a creative person and fashionista, I found this extremely limiting. Of course times are different now and some dress codes are much more lenient than others, but this job had a lasting impression on me and my thoughts on “workwear.” Since blazers tend to fall into this category, I’ve always steered clear. However, with the resurrection of this trend and the updated styles, I decided to give it another shot!

It took a while for me to find the “perfect” blazer because I’m quite picky but once I did, it was love! I fell head over heels over this perfect pink hue and loved how flattering the fit was. I’ve tried on a few looser fit blazers that I loved but they always seemed to overwhelm my petite frame so I knew that something structured might work better for me. The shape is feminine and classic and I can see this being worn a million different ways through multiple seasons.

1.) Style with a Dress

When it comes to blazers, I want to get as far as possible from it being viewed as business attire. To achieve this, I’d recommend styling it with a less structured dress. Instead of going for the normal shift silhouette, opt for a looser fit swing dress, flowy maxi dress and cute flared mini dress. I styled mine with a fit and flare midi dress with ruffled chiffon details 🙂

2.) Style with Jeans

Even though I’m primarily a dress wearer, I love the way blazers look with jeans! I’d say that the lighter the jean, the more casual the look. This color would look incredible with any color…black, dark blue, light blue, grey and white. For a dressed up look, I’d pair it with a polka dot button up top and dark jeans (like the look from this post) and for a more casual look, I’d add a slouchy basic tee with a light-colored destroyed denim.

3.) Style with Shorts

This blazer would be the perfect layering piece for those chilly mornings and evenings on an otherwise warm day. I think pairing it with denim shorts and a tee would be perfect, but you can also dress it up a bit with a more structured short.

4.) Style with a Skirt

Personally, I would stay away from the typical pencil skirt and opt for a fit and flare style skirt that is either above the knee or slightly below. Matching sets are big right now so that might be a fun option as well 🙂
