I’ve got a busy rest of the week ahead of me and while I love to be comfortable, I also love to be stylish when I’m working. Today, I’m giving you a peek of my typical “work outfit” and showing you how to dress up a shirt dress!
Grey Shirt Dress Outfit Details
We’re halfway through the week-Yay! This week is especially busy because I’m actually subbing. Months ago, I had to make a decision as to whether or not I wanted to continue to sub or to put that additional time in the blog. I chose the latter (obviously), but decided to renew my credential “just in case” and gave myself the remainder of the school year to see if I could get by financially without subbing. I ended up dropping all the districts except for one and so far, it’s working out but I still get teachers requesting me every now and then 😉 Subbing days are always busy because I immediately head to my guitar lessons and tutoring sessions afterward making it an all day event. With that being said, it’s important to wear something that’s both comfortable and professional.
When you think of professional, a French terry grey shirt dress is probably the last thing that comes to mind. This grey shirt dress in particular is really just like an oversized sweatshirt making it the most comfortable thing ever! The good thing is that you can easily dress it up and still feel like you’re wearing your PJ’s. Not only is this grey shirt dress comfy, but it also has the cutest ruffle hemline and the most adorable floral appliqué near the shoulder area making it a perfect addition to your spring wardrobe. The dress is naturally loose-fitting and casual so I dressed it up with a bow belt. Structured clothing is traditionally more professional looking but you can fake it by simply cinching in the waist. I added a structured pink blazer on top for a pop of color and to make the outfit look more put together overall. I also love how the ruffled hem mirrors that of the dress. I accessorized with a simple jeweled bracelet and large structured handbag. Lastly, I added a darling pair of striped flats with the cutest bow detail for easy walking. Cute flats are always my go-to for work, especially subbing because you’re walking all over the place. I learned the hard way that heels just really aren’t practical haha 😉 Also, I should note that teaching in general is a more casual environment than some other professions so it’s a lot easier to get away with showing your personality in your outfits with color, prints and more casual fabrics. With jobs that require a stricter dress code, I would opt to style this grey shirt dress with a neutral blazer in black or white, a closed toe pump and a structured tote with minimal jewelry for a chic and professional look.
